I have been given a dictionary in a dict.dz file. I decompressed the file to a dict.one. But I can find no way of opening it on my Macbook Air. Goldendict and stardict don't work on mac, dictunifier won't accept it to be converted. I have tried dropping the file into library/dictionary but that doesn't appear in my dictionary app. I remember I tried years ago to opening a dict. file but failed then. Any advice most appreciated!
I am running Sonoma 14.3.1 on a 2020 macbook air

I was given the dict file by a friend who, presumably, downloaded it from somewhere.
I decompressed it with The Unarchiver, don't know how it was compressed
The dictionary was the one that came with the macbook.
Error message is "There is no application set to open the document “oed.dict”.

Many thanks for your interest.

Under the circumstances and with so many unknowns I recommend deleting that file and looking for another dictionary product/app.

It may be good that the "document" did not/would not open.

I will defer to the MacOS community for further ideas and comments.

I have just remembered that years ago when I was given this it worked fine on my macbook pro 2011! Still, appreciate your comments and quite frankly I'm bored with following instructions on the web (as well as Chatgpt!) that don't work, so probably will just bin it.
