So i sold my old card, and then clean installed windows using the 4770 cpu's graphics to do that and other light tasks. Its surprisingly OK for non game tasks, even at 1440p.

My question is, when my 290x comes in the mail, will there be any driver conflicts to be aware of? Or are the hd graphics just "backup" that wont matter when i plug the gpu in and plug the monitor into the gpu? Thanks.

My situation was pretty close to yours. I had an i7-4790K that I ordered last fall and I ran off integrated graphics for a few weeks while UPS screwed around, accidentally sending my precious 290 to places in which it did not belong, forgetting to stop at my house to deliver it and sending it to more places where it did not belong, and finally delivering it several weeks after it had shipped.

Yeah, all I did was install the card, plug the monitor into the graphics card and NOT the motherboard, and then start the computer. I didn't install the drivers that came with the card because they were messed up, but Windows can still run the computer off your GPU at a low resolution using core drivers. So I just went to AMD's website and downloaded the latest drivers. Simple as that, there should be no problems. If there are, then something's wrong with the GPU, CPU, or motherboard.
To more precisely answer your question, the integrated graphics (i REFUSE to call them HD graphics, they are NOT worthy of such a title, even AMD makes better integrated graphics. If there are two things Intel makes that completely suck, it's their stock coolers and their integrated graphics. Iris is an exception, sort of) are completely shut off when you actually use your GPU. So there will be no driver conflict. The integrated graphics are only activated when you plug your monitor into the motherboard and not the graphics card.
