Hi I am currently trying to plan out a new gaming computer build. I was planning on having a WD black series hard drive for games, a WD 500Gb hard drive for general files and images, but I want extremely fast OS load time and I am not sure of the difference between M.2 and an SSD. It can be extremely small (<100Gb) as I do not plan to put any thing other than Windows 10 on it.

I plan on using a "MSI Z170A GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151" if that will affect the outcome, please let me know. I am willing to choose a different board if it gives me a decently better load time.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You!

You are going to shave couple of seconds of the BOOT time to play games for hours at a time ???
Games themselves are not going to load any faster with super fast SSD when they are installed on HDD. My Windows 10 load in less than 7 seconds even from old and relatively slow SSD but because most important programs are installed on SSD they start in 1 - 2 seconds and ones installed on HDD take 4 - 5 times longer.

Yes, I don't mind games load time, I would rather have my entire Steam collection loaded to a huge hard drive and wait for load times, than have a couple on an SSD and not have to wait on a load screen. Hard Drives are just cheaper for large amounts of memory, which is what I want.

But I am still curious as to whether a M.2 would be faster than an SSD for loading the OS.
