operating system not found

Hello i have a window vista and my operating system not found error keeps coming up i have my back ups but it still what do i do thank you

Hi! and welcome to Tom's!
It may be something as simple as having a non-bootable cd/DVD in the optical drive, with the boot order set in the BIOS as Optical drive first. if that doesn't fix it, you may have HDD problems, that are preventing the machine from booting. That is a whole other discussion.
