Hello

My pc was working fine recently, the occasional freeze etc. Then today I turn it on and it tells me I don't have an OS installed.

Checked bios, and my SSD which Windows 10 is installed on, is not listed there at all.

I tried swapping out SATA cables with spares I had and the ones that were in my 2tb hdd but still no SSD.

I assuming it has failed, which is okay, it only ran my OS and nothing else important was on it.
However, I have a Windows 10 install USB that came with the PC I bought my brother. I boot off the usb and select install 64 bit mode. Black screen with white bar loads. Windows icon comes up. Swirly loading icon appears. Then BSOD. Every time. With the error. Memory_management

I can however install 32 bit and that works fine .. If I wanted to run it off of a hdd which I don't.

So it puzzles me that I lose my SSD and then not able to install 64 bit. Coincidence? Or linked?

Tomorrow I will be putting my SSD in my brothers pc to see if it picks it up. I will post back here with results. But that won't change the strange windows 10 install issue.

Question I suppose is, what could be causing the install issue?

I have been wanting to but an m.2 so I'm not upset about my ssd dying as I had suspected that was the cause of my freezing lately. But I am concerned about the install.

The is in advance.

Specs

I76700k @ 4.0
Z170a gaming m5
msi gtx 980ti
32g ram - also tried 16 ram but still bsod.
SanDisk ultra 250g ssd (not working)
2t hdd

Hmm, before going further I would check the power supply. Might be causing the errors and damage to components.

Head into the BIOS and see what it is reporting for 12V, 5V and 3.3V. If they are within reason, then I would try to download a fresh copy of Windows and put it on your own USB. Not sure if the one you are using is from an OEM or you made it yourself.
