So I'm upgrading my current PC and want to know what you guys think of my first build idea. I got roughly $800 for a GPU, mobo, CPU and OS. I'm also contemplating not going with Intel but as of now that's my first choice.

CPU: Intel i5 4670K 3.4ghz w/ Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 4GB
MOBO: ASRock Z87 Pro3 ATX LGA1150
OS: Windows 7 64bit (or should I go with Windows 8?)

and the parts on my current PC that I will be combining with those:

PSU: OCZ Stealthxtreme 2 700w
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200 500gb
Case: Antec 300
Memory: G Skill Ripjaws Series 12GB

I have to agree on that, the Vram is need for the future, and needed for now for some games, like you mentioned. But if you're on a budget, you could use the price difference from the 4gb and 2gb version for other components, like more ram or better yet, a better processor like the i7...
I got a couple different answers in another thread.

One person told me to go with the build I posted here claiming I will get better performance with a more powerful GPU..... another told me the 770 4GB was overkill and I should go with an i7 and a 760 2GB. Any incite as to who is right?

The performance different between a GTX 770 and GTX 780 in most games now is only a difference of 10-12 FPS. The only real step up would be is a GTX 780 TI and that would be completely overkill for 1080p. Your build looks good and you should be able to play all the games from the next gen consoles on high or above. In a year or 2 you could also pick up another 770 when prices go down and you would be set for a while. All in all you should be set.

My bad I didnt explain that right.

Basically I'm asking which combo will give me better performance

i5 4670K 3.4ghz and a GTX 770 4GB

or

i7 4770 3.4ghz and a GTX 760 2GB

I can't go with the i7 and the 770 because it goes a couple hundred over my budget.

The i5 and gtx 770 is a better combo because for gaming you don't need hyper threading. The i7 is overkill, but the gtx 770 is just right and future proof for the next 1.5 - 2 years, I'd say. Also, u don't need 4gb of VRAM with the graphics card for gaming unless you're using a dual setup monitor, that alone could save you $60. I hope this was helpful enough.

Yes like that other guy said the Core i5 and GTX 770 is a better combo for now. But if you look at games like Battlefield 4 and Crysis 3 that actually take advantage of hyper threading the Core i7 looks more appealing. But i don't agree with that 2GB VRAM is enough. I play BF4 on ultra @ 1080p and easily go over 2GB of VRAM. I would say go with the 4gb of VRAM since most of the upcoming games will be able to use it and the more you have the better.

But when it comes to gaming, graphic cards are the most important, so I can't argue with that you're saying.
