I currently have a Micro ATX P8H61-M LX. Bought this around 2011 with a i7 2600k.

I was planning on replacing it with a Asrock ATX Z77 Extreme3 (since I am upgrading the case too) for two reasons, so I can fit a better cooler and to overclock my processor.

Heres the thing tho, I was told that I should wait for the new generation of Intel Processors, Skylake and the new Mobos, however these won't enter the market till 2015 or so.

However another question arises, do I really need to upgrade my 2600k? Wouldn't it be enough to play and stream videogames for the next year or so? I mean, even if Skylake was released tomorrow, would it be worth it to upgrade?

Also, is Asrock a realiable motherboard brand? I heard of some people that had problems with some of their mobos.

In my country this Motherboard is available for around 150 dollars.

Thanks a lot for your answers and your time.

No need to upgrade 2600K yet so your plan to go Z77 board is fine. Asrock is popular and has been making a name for them selves, I personally am an Asus fan and buy their boards before anything else.
With the current performance gap per Intel CPU release you still have a top tier CPU. It will not get obsolete until the platform does, that is tech inventions like DDR4 become mainstream and must have. Basically 2600K has just as much life left as an Intel Haswell.
