Hi everyone,

I am an early adapter of the amd ryzen cpu series. Recently I bought RTX 2070 but I started seeing some lagging playing new games. Especially playing Diablo 4 I had sudden fps drops. Weird part is that cpu usage was around 40% and gpu %20. I am planning to upgrade my system but don't want to spend a lot of money on it. Could you maybe suggest whhich component to upgrade ?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 3.2 GHz Summit Ridge 65 W
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS
Memory: 2 x 8 GB DDR4 2133 but cpuz shows max bandwidth 1066 MHz

During gameplay memory usage was almost maxed out. I guess I could buy a new set of memory sticks, but which ones to buy ?

I would appreciate any help

How much RAM does the game actually take up? If it takes up say 8GB and you're running out, I would say start finding other applications you don't need running while you're playing the game first. If the game is approaching something like 12-14GB, then yeah, that's a pretty thicc boy. But what's your longer term plans? If you plan on getting a new system, I'd say hold off on buying any RAM because DDR4 is going out the door.

A note about CPU usage, most games still shove things onto a handful of threads, like 2-4. So a lot of games still can't use most of the cores on a CPU yet.

Do not base system upgrades on a Beta. There are LOADS of error reports in relation to that specific game (D4) and cannot be used as reference to system performance.

The 1700 is an aging CPU, but certainly not near obsolete. Consider raising resolution to 1440, perhaps.
As to RAM, it is unlikely that anything will work properly faster than ~2933 for a first gen CPU and chipset. With that said, check your BIOS updates, which help with RAM compatibility, and select a good set of (faster) sticks as that will help in the case of Ryzen AM4.

Your best bet for a quick and easy upgrade would be to replace the 1700 with at least a 3xxx series, and 5xxx if your motherboard BIOS updates support it.

I suggest you read the question again.
The OP just bought a new GPU.

sorry , english is not my native language . my english ...

buy a better GPU ! a pci e gen 4 . it is compatible with gen 3 motherboard you got .
when you get the money upgrade to gen 4 and get whole new FPS max wonder .
like in DooM eternal which gives you 1000 FPS with gen 4 .
that's what i would do .

if you want to optimize RAM before entering the game , there are plenty of software for that too . Like Razer Cortex , which you can have for free . . .
razer mices are not goof for fps but theier set of softwares are decent.

Your CPU usage is low because it only using a couple cores in most games.
Your board supports a 5600 CPU (with a BIOS update).
If I was upgrading your PC.

EDIT 220 bucks if your in the US, the processor is about 30% faster and the faster memory will make a big difference also. Probably in the 45% faster overall area than what you have.
