Recently, I have been trying to create a gaming PC using Optiplex 755 SFF case. This is proving quite difficult... Inside, there is a 275w PSU, 4GB of RAM, an SSD and a Hard Drive. I'm currently, trying to install a GPU in there and upgrade the RAM to 8GB (I am aware that it can only use DDR2 ram).

The GPU I am looking to install is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Graphics-Card-Express-5400GHz/dp/B00NM3BTVG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1429969323&sr=8-3&keywords=gtx+750+ti+low+profile The only restraint I am having about buying this is a 400w power requirement. Money isn't the main issue here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution

If the PSU is at least 300W you should be fine with the 750. I would only buy the 250 as a last resort.
I don't think you can upgrade the PSU in Dell's SFF cases. At-least this is the issue with their Inspiron S series cases... But if you can't and are still wanting to build inside of it, you can always go with an R7 250 which gives off no power.

Sorry for the late response. The reason I was looking at the GTX 750ti was because I read a similar thing about it not taking any power at all. I will have a look at the R7 250 and see if it will allow me to run the games I plan on playing. Thank you!

The PSU is 275w. Didn't mean to press the best solution thing haha

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Jordan_Church/saved/jdxCmG; I basically put in your "soon to be" PC specs, and PCPartPicker estimates that this machine will only use about 172W. You should be perfectly fine, and if you were to buy a Intel Core 2 Quad you'll use about 0-40W more depending on the model. And don't worry, I accidentally do it ALL the time. ._.

Appreciate the help a lot! Currently, there is an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 @2.33GHz. Should I upgrade to a quad?
You got near enough everything in that build btw, will probably copy most of it.

I don't really know if you should, but it might be worth it. If you have the money then I would, personally...
