For some reason, Oracle VM VirtualBox is crashing my PC about two or three times a week. It seems very inconsistent, so I'm not sure what's causing it. It usually works just fine for hours on end, and then it randomly crashes. In the most recent crash, my PC crashed as soon as I opened VirtualBox. I am using the Debian 12 Bookworm OS on my VM for class although I'm using Windows 10 Education as my actual OS. I tried to reduce my number of processors to 5 and then 4 instead of 6, but that did not help. I tried to adjust my base memory as well, but that also didn't work. I'm not sure what else I can do to fix this.

PC Specifications:
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard

SSD 2: Crucial P3 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
RAM: (4x16) TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory
Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex III Gold 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Windows: Windows 10 Education
AMD Driver Version: 24.7.1

Can you please download the SysnativeBSODCollectionApp and save it to the Desktop. Then run it and upload the resulting zip file to a cloud service with a link to it here. The SysnativeBSODCollectionApp collects all the troubleshooting data we're likely to need. It DOES NOT collect any personally identifying data. It's used by several highly respected Windows help forums (including this one). I'm a senior BSOD analyst on the Sysnative forum where this tool came from, so I know it to be safe.

You can of course look at what's in the zip file before you upload it, most of the files are txt files. Please don't change or delete anything though. If you want a description of what each file contains you'll find that here.

1. Check Event Viewer

2. If bluescreen. https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

3. Alternative: VMware Workstation 17.x Pro is now free.
thank you for the suggestions! What should I be looking for in Event Viewer? Additionally, I did not get a blue screen; my screen just went completely black and then my PC restarted. Will the Blue Screen viewer still work then? If those don’t work, I’ll definitely go with Workstation then. Thank you again!

lf there is no bluescreen, then no BSOD file that Bluescreen Viewer can analyze. Even if there is one, you still have view it and guess.

Black screen most likely caused by video driver.

Either one you probably have to go through try and error.

Go with VMware probably will be easier.

I see, it's unfortunate that I can't use Bluescreen Viewer then. As for the video driver, I suppose I'll try to update it then. I saw that the latest AMD driver just released. I see what you're saying abotu try and error though, so I'll just go to VMware soon. I just don't want to have to set up my environment all over again since it's a lot of setup, but I'll have to suck it up soon.

In Event Viewer, I'm seeing some critical errors whose times match up with the times my VM crashed. They all fall under "Event 41, Kernel-Power." Here are the details:

General: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I'm not seeing anything, but I don't know what's really important here. Do you see anything here and all? Thank you again for the help! As for error logs, I don't see any error logs from around the time my PC crashed, but I'll look at it again when my PC crashes again.

Both drives appear to contain UEFI partitions, as though there are two copies of Windows installed,? Can you explain what's on those two drives?

That said, this rather looks to be a VirtualBox problem, there are many of these errors in your logs....
Code:
Log Name: System
Source: VBoxNetLwf
Date: 05/09/2024 17:14:36
Event ID: 12
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: DESKTOP-59C1JVC
Description:
The description for Event ID 12 from source VBoxNetLwf cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\VBoxNetLwf

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table
Are you sure VirtualBox is properly installed? It might be worth uninstalling ir, rebooting, and the download and install VirtualBox again.

I installed both Windows and Linux on Drive D, so that might be why it's like that. As for Drive C, I just installed Windows on that drive.

And I see, it seems to make sense that a corrupted installation would cause some crashing issues. I will try to uninstall it, reboot, and download and install it again since I am not sure if it is properly installed. I noticed that I am also getting crashes when I try to open OpenRGB as an administrator without a BSOD. Should I provide those Sysnative files as well? I can reproduce these crashes consistently since they happen every time unlike my VirtualBox crashes. Thank you!
