I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro SP1, but the windows updates ran for 24 hours without finding an update to install. I ran the options multiple times, but nothing. I posted a message about this issue and was pointed to the URL http://www.howtogeek.com/255435/how-to-update-windows-7-all-at-once-with-microsofts-convenience-rollup/. I followed the instruction and was able to install the updates in the two files.

It doesn't look the the windows update function is going to work. If I need to install the updates manually. Do I just install the 'Rollup Updates' provided for a Windows 7 x64 base system or is there a another method I should use?

Thanks,

That is a common Windows 7 update problem.

I recommend you first download and run KB947821.
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7

Its time to see what SURT has identified.
1.Click the Start button -> then click Computer.
2.Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
3.Find and double click on the Logs folder.
4.Double click on CBS
5.You should now see a file called CheckSUR.log

Next, run Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3020369).
Next, run Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3172605).

Windows update can be set to recommended auto setting. Check for Updates.

After completing all your updates, I would recommend turning Windows Update off. Turn back on when you want to check again.

Before I posted this, I had already downloaded/installed KB3020369 and KB3125574. Should I do go on and install KB947821 and then look for the CheckSUR.log (currently can't find). After that, download/install KB3172605?

Thanks,

KB947821 downloaded as a folder with 22 applications and 1 .MSU file called X86-all-windows6.1-kb947821-v33. I ran the .MSU file and got the message "The update is not applicable to your computer.
