Hi,

I just recently bought a used pc.

R4000 for an i5, gt630, 4×2 corsair gaming ram, 19" monitor, 550watt power supply.

Now I think everyone gets dodgy with deals like these.

Anyway, get home and boot up, it's 32bit win8.1.

Fine, my friend gives me a copy of the then free win10 64 which he downloaded. Try to install but 32bit can't read 64bit setup file.

He then makes me a bootable dvd with the image of win10 but it doesn't want to boot to the dvd at all. I am lost and need help please.

Solution

Have you considered trying to use a flash drive instead of a dvd?

If you have a spare 4gb+ flash drive lying around maybe that would work easier for you.

So you are trying to install a 64 bit Windows 10 in a 32bit system? And did you check what Windows 10 version your friend has given you (home or professional). I prefer you upgrade using your Win 8.1 by following the Windows 10 upgrade link. It will keep your Win 8.1 files untouched and Windows 10 will be installed.

Yes, I made the dvd rom priority. After I booted into the boot menu and also selected the dvd rom.

I also enabled legacy boot after struggling. Went into pxe but it doesn't even read the disc and says no media...check cables blah blah.

It definitely is a bootable dvd with win10 iso.

But the disc is readable when opened in win8.

I bought the pc used, as is.

I recommend the step damiengajda says, just write the iso to a usb and it boots very fast and works without any issue. I feel the writing speed of the DVD is causing issue with your system.
