One of the themes Ive been noticing on the news and leisure part of this forum is gun control. As a libertarian (loosely) I do believe that people have the right to bear arms and form militias. I personally don't own any firearms and don't plan to anytime soon, but I don't think some nut with a loose grip on reality should buy a .50 caliber rifle and shoot down low flying aircraft.

I want some opinions on what we should do with the gun culture in America. I'm torn.

Its a trick question ... I could be shot either way.

Luckily I am out of range unless they start selling Minuteman III's.

I'd imagine you would need to wait at least 3 days for one of those and have a valid driver's license too.

Bit out of most people's price range ... fortunately.

It was more making fun of the common argument that if everyone had a gun there would be less crime. It wouldn't work in reality but it is still passed off as a legitimate argument.

However in reality gun control can never work as if someone wants one they will get one. One way is tight control of gun supply(which can unfairly drive up prices) but again, if someone wants a gun they will get hold of one.

As always, education is the only way to solve these problems, and executing those who refuse to be educated.

If everybody had a gun it would be an exercise in micro mutually assured destruction. You shoot me there's a very good chance ill shoot you (and anyone else present).
So how do we balance what the founding fathers had in mind when they created the 2nd amendment with todays reality of gun violence. Would removing guns remove violence or would baseball bat and machete sales increase. Remember the hutus committed genocide with clubs and knives.

Removing firearms would create more 'violence'. Period.

Look. Take a look at Switzerland for a second, and see that basically every person alive in that country owns a firearm. And now look at their crime rate. One of the lowest in the world.

Now, taking a look at the United State closer up, we see that states with fewer "control laws" (which, as history has taught us, typically ends in tyranny and the self-destruction of a country) have LOWER crime rates than the states like California, which are ruled by meatheads who don't realize that trying to ban firearms will take them away from the law-abiding citizens, NOT the criminals.

I'm a proud owner of three safes full of rifles and handguns, and I plan to keep it that way. Here in the US, we're slowly being converted into a communist government, and as a random afterthought of this whole thing, society will completely break down before it makes that transformation. They'd cross that line if they tried to eliminate firearms.

overunder 222 Rem over 20 ga
20 ga doublebarrel side by side
16 ga.

My 44 Mag is the old blackhawk sighted in @ 100 Yds (could keep on target @ 200 Yds.) Can not buy ammo, have to make your own The 357 herret is ballisticly equiv to the 350 rem rifle (has a pretty good recoil for a handgun - 10 in barrel). the 45 long colt is loaded to 45 Mag (not automag) and has a screw in addaptor so you can use 2 1/2 in 410 - never tried, but I've heard that if you level the adaptor in (at end of barrel) and fire 45 ammo you need to but in a vice to remove.)
