Hello, I’ve recently bought some parts and built a computer and after a day I’ve had issue after issue. I already made a thread on reddit and I’ll copy and paste all my info down below. And help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! After looking around on this sub and online I haven’t seemed to find anyone with this exact issue I’m having.

Last night I built my first pc with the specs being:
Mobo- x570 MSI gaming edge WiFi
GPU - EVGA 2080 TI FTW edition
Cpu - Ryzen 9 3900x
Ram - 32gb viper
Aio h115i platinum cooler
And a 850 power supply from my brothers old computer.

I got it all put together and it booted up great! I took it home and got it all set up on my desk and started the adventure of re downloading all my new stuff. After downloading GeForce experience I (think this was a mistake?) downloaded my gpu drivers as usual. Hit express install and watched as it went black as usual then never came back. It hung for a while and I ended up restarting it. It went to that same black screen. So, I then went ahead and reverted it to a previous windows restore point and went and updated my bios for my mobo. Installed those perfectly fine and went on to windows 10 updates. It got pretty late and I ended up shutting it down and updating to then work on it tonight.

Here I am, and it started perfectly normal and I tried to tackle the gpu drivers again. This time it did the same exact thing. Went right to a black screen. I then turned it all off and pulled out the gpu to make sure it was snug in there. Re did that a few times and it’s definitely in there. PCI plugs are snug in and I’m now at a loss. It won’t boot up, it just hangs on that black screen again. I haven’t tried restoring it to my restore point I set up before doing the gpu drivers but I’m just at a complete loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Update: I was able to restore my windows to default and just started over. I started with my bios and did a full install from dragon center and it’s still working. I diagnosed my pc and it says “NVIDIA USB Type-C Port Policy Controller Doesn’t have a driver”. This was the same error I was getting last night before I tried installing my gpu drivers. I’m now on my GeForce experience and the only drivers available are the before game ready driver version 442.50. This was the same one I tried last night and I’m a little scared to try downloading it again lol.

Update 2: I skipped GeForce experience and went right to EVGAs site and downloaded the drivers and I’m back in the same boat of it hanging at a black screen. 🙁

Update 3: checking my display adapters I’m only getting the basic windows adapter and it’s not recognizing the gpu. One fan is running of the three and it’s all lit up.

update 4: I’ve tried downloading a previous version of the drivers (v 441) and after the first black flash it hung for a bit then proceeded to restart completely. After restarting it checked the disk drive and now it’s stuck on a black screen again. After the black screen it took me to windows to go to a restore point and restarted. I think I’m stuck in a loop.

The free program Driver Display Uninstaller (DDU) is excellent at fully uninstalling any previous drivers so that you can start again from fresh.
I would also advise against using Geforce Experience when you do re-install drivers.

Go to your Control Panel, Programs and Features and uninstall GeForce Experience.
Download the NVIDIA driver that you wish to install but don't run it yet - 442.50 is the latest one but you can use earlier ones.
Next download DDU then run it and in 'Launch Option' select Safe Mode.
This will restart your PC in to Safe Mode.
Next unplug your network cable as this will prevent Windows from downloading the default Microsoft driver.
Select VGA driver and uninstall it.
Then run your NVIDIA driver that you...

When it gets to the screen saying 'Installation Options' select 'Express'.

After it has finished installing you can plug your network cable back in.

Hope this helps.
