has this gone by the wayside?? or should it still be able to be done?? i have tried googling and it still says you can set it up.. yet i have done both a gmail and ATT account exactly as it is said and it still fails authentication when doing a test message.. it will keep asking me for my password and saying it is not being authenticated.. yet i can open up a browser window and log in manually just fine.. i verified i dont have 2 step verification on the emails.. so it should go through

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted.

above is what it states.. yet it is all VALID.. so not sure if its an outlook 2010 thing or what. i am using windows 11 24h2.. i do have one adddress in outlook already and it works just fine.

set the correct ssl decryption setting
gmail:
OAuth
Outlook 2016 and earlier might not be compatible anymore, cause oauth is not supported by these
SSL was set correctly. After spending all day looking for some answers.. it turns out the incorrect id and password were way off base.. apparently after a certain point... both ATT and gmail require security passwords.. once I got those and tried installing them again... all went thru.. nothing like chasing my tail on this but at least now I know. Have written it all down.. so I wont have to go thru this again.
