So a few months back anyone who used Outlook 2003 and 2007 to access their MS Hotmail accounts was informed by Microsoft that they must download a small program called Outlook Connector in order to continue accessing hotmail accounts due to some changes being made to Outlook.

This program worked as intended and permitted the continual use of Outlook to access Hotmail on Win XP and Vista.

Windows 7, apparently, is another story. The connector program evidently does not run in Win 7 and without it Outlook is useless to hook in to Hotmail.

Has anyone else run in to this and gotten any work-arounds to fixing it?

Well the plot thickens on this Outlook Connector. I have used Outlook for many years to use my hotmail account. I am using XP PRO SP3 though

All went well till we had to go to Outlook Connector. It worked for a while, with occasional stuttering requiring a close down of Outlook, logging into web based hotmail, logging out - then Outlook could get the mail.

2 things I noticed.

1. Since Outlook Connector, what I did with my hotmail account in Outlook, wasn't synched in my web based account. I've had years of cleaning out my hotmail account by moving mail to an Outlook folder. I do that now, but the mail stays on web based hotmail. Agggh...

2. AVG free anti-virus with "scanning cookies" option on, would jump up when Outlook was opened. Tracking cookie was from memory user@adtmt.com(2). The prefix of the cookie is whatever your windows log in name is. ... Researching this cookie, I found it was Microsoft's - through their "advertising" company.

There is a lot about the adtmt.com cookie on the net - mainly from malware sellers. No matter what I threw at this cookie, it was resilient. If you got rid of it, back it would come when Outlook was started. (While AVG free "scanning cookies" option screamed, AVG could not get rid of it.

SOLUTION - or so I thought. You can go to atdmt.com where you will be directed to Atlas Solutions (http://www.atlassolutions.com/) - a site claiming "© COPYRIGHT 2009 MICROSOFT ALL RIGHTS RESERVED". I have no doubt it is Microsoft. In that site, under their privacy link they offer a link of Opting out of Cookies (http://www.atlassolutions.com/optout.aspx)...... I did that, but without identifying myself or my hotmail address. Since then, I don't have atdmt.com tracking cookie, but my 2 gig disk space quota dropped to 500 meg and Outlook Connector is abysmal. My Hotmail address of 12 years crippled. I keep my emails in Outlook PST files that I save, then clean out.

That is my story. Very disappointing that Microsoft force a tracking cookie down your throat without telling you. Most people won't know. Can we get Bill get in the helm please?

I tried running it as administrator. It immediately comes back with the error "The installation of this package has failed." One note, I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, not 32 bit.
