Hey all so i recently ugpraded my gpu from a 750 to a 5500 xt and upgraded to 16gb of ram. However my cpu usage is still quite high on certain games especially lost ark the 1 i upgraded my pc for. So, i want to over clock my i-5 4670k. I know this is difficult but i heard that it can increase performance by a lot. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated what program should i use and any general tips would be nice.

Hi ayeooo444 👍

There are Overclocking guides for your Haswell CPU. Here are two:
https://www.overclockers.com/3step-guide-to-overclock-intel-haswell

OK first update your BIOS and Chipset if not already done so.

As you have a Corsair AIO (Please list the model) then install it and conduct a Baseline Stress test using Aida64 at stock frequency for 20mins. Take desktop photos at the 20min mark then post the results thru IMGUR. If at anytime temps go above 80C then stop the test.
I also use HWinfo64 to compare temps and other relevant info.
Check Your Rail voltages and temps on the T/Die to determine a decent stable Overclock and post results here...
i already had my fps showing it is locked at 60 on a 60 hz monitor the issue is fps drops followed by stutters.

I saw you posted your temps up above but what are they when your gaming. If you dont have a second monitor see if you can barrow one for a short while and monitor your CPU, GPU, ram, and harddrive. Watch you temps and speed on CPU and GPU and then watch your ram and disk usage. You could always pick up a cheap SSD as a game drive and see if the game performs better on it then the HDD.

Okay something is seriously wrong my temps are fine ive monitored them and also OC'd my cpu at 4.0 ghz but im running 130-140 fps on league and im getting choppy laggy gameplay visibly with no fps drops wtf.

Ok, what is the harddrive disc usage when you start to have issues? What is your ram usage at? I did see one posting where the minimum drive size is 50GB and recommend was 50GB ssd, very well could be a your having issues since your on a HDD. Watch your ram usage, if ram usage goes over 8GB and you start having issues i would point at the hybrid 4+4+8 setup you have going on.

Side note you switched from a 750 to 5500xt, did you use DDU to remove the old drivers when you installed the new card?

Hey i just used ddu and took my 8 gb single stick out i think ive came to the conclusion that i need an ssd to fix it what ssd do i need for my mobo?

a standard 2.5" sata drive will be fine. My go to ssd is samsung, switched over from intel drives and havent looked back. Samsung 870 evo or a crucial mx500, havent used the mx500 but i do see a lot of people recommend them on here.

How full is your 2TB drive? What would be really nice is to get a 1Tb drive and reinstall windows on it and then use half the dive for most played games, then use the 2TB hdd for storage.

About 90% of all my steam games are on my 6TB drive, according to steam i have 647 games and maybe 7 of them are installed on my 1TB nvme drive. The rest are all installed on the hard drive.......yes i have all them installed and updated, never know when you might want to play one 😀

my hdd isnt full at all its a 2tb hdd btw and i dont download many games so i wouldnt need a 1tb ssd maybe 256-500. although my cpu is a 4 core 4 thread i have it ocd at 4.0 ghz and im pretty sure its a combination of have a 4 core cpu matched with no ssd thats making my <Mod Edit> run bad. League never used to lag, But now it does as theyve upgraded their game. Im also hoping that the ssd will fix my lost ark stutter fps issues im pretty sure my cpu should be able to handle the game from what ive seen on youtube.

I agree with faalin on the storage upgrade and on Samsung drives too. Crucial MX500s are good too.

Here is a great example let me know your thoughts on this guys. this guy has the same gpu as me 16 gb ram same as me and im pretty sure my cpu is better than his as its clocked a 4.0 ghz and his is 3.3 ghz. the difference is he has an ssd and hes getting absolutely 0 stutters especially in the town which is where i get really bad choppy fps at even running at low settings i still get same choppy lag. thoughts? a 1TB ssd is around $100-120 a 500GB is around $50-60. If your not using more then 500GB on the HDD you could clone the drive over to the SSD and then wipe the HHD for storage use.

Just make sure whatever SSD you get has more room on it then the total used space on the HDD and you will be fine to clone the drive. Also remember that you need to leave at least 20% of free space for provision to ensure good long term performance, keep that in mind when cloning over the drive.

You can use Macrium Reflect to clone the HDD to SSD.

Ill look into that also debated upgrading to an i-7 4790 it will give me 8 more threads is that worth it for $80 or no? (thats the price of that cpu on ebay used)

Thats up to you if the $80 is worth it. My old computer (current one in sig was built in feb 2018) was a 4670k that i handed down to my brother and he still plays games on it today. Believe its a 4670k stock, gtx1060 6GB, 16GB ram, and a 256gb ssd.

I would see where the SSD takes you, If lost ark is already hitting 60FPS then a new CPU will not help out at all. If your happy with the game play of all your other games right now then the CPU once again wont help much ether.

If it were me i would be looking at a newer system then keep throwing money at an end of life platform, depending on your parts case, GPU, SSD, and maybe PSU (although rather old... and depending on it build quality when bought new) could be transferred over to a new system. For around $300 you could jump into a new computer PC Partpicker so take that $80 and now you need $220 for a way better computer and it leaves you open to move to the i7/i9 10th and 11th gen cpu
