Hello everyone:
This is my current build:
CPU:Intel Core i7-4790K
MOBO:Gigabyte ga-z97x Gaming 5
GPU: GTX 980 Gigabyte g1 Gaming
Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler
RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM XMP
HDD: WD Caviar Dark 1TB
SSD: 850 EVO 120GB
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2
Case: Nzxt H440
I am truly a newbie when it comes to OC, since I have never attempted such thing, so I come for advice from the true masters.
I check my temps with Open Hardware Monitor, and I have noticed that the Bus part reports fluctuating numbers that go from 800Mhz to 4400Mhz, nothing in between, and even when I am just browsing the numbers tend to stay up there at 4400Mhz. Is this normal? Because every time those numbers are at 4400Mhz my Core temps range from 41 to 51, more or less. I live in a fairly hot area, and my room temps most be around 24c more or less.
I thought my CPU was clocked to 4.0, but I am assuming that the fact that I see that 4400Mhz, mean that the "turbo" stuff is activating by itself. Why? Even when I am just browsing.
Can anyone teach me how to OC my CPU through this MOBO? Or can you direct me in the right way to look for myself? What I want to achieve is very simple. I want to know the proper way to play with the "voltages" or whatever it is, so that I can set my system to run the coolest possible and still be able to attain the basic 4.0 that it was supposed to come with. But also, in the future, I would like to know this art of OC to get higher clock frequencies to get a little more power from my CPU.
I haven't touched anything at all, and I didn't really want to use that easy tune stuff because I've read bad things about it, and I really want to know what I am doing.
Considering that my CPU cores where at 4.4, idle temps of around 48-50C are... like... normal?
I think my Vcore (I hope I wrote it right) is at 1.2(ish) volts I think. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64.
And I have my RAM at XMP #2 CL9
Thanks in advance, I really want to learn.
