Overclock fx 8350 and boost clock help!

I have successfully/stably got my 8350 to 4.5ghz, but I was wondering if it was possible to manually set a boost clock for the cpu.

So the standard will be 4.5 but when required some of the cores will run at lets say 4.8ghz

If possible... how do I do it?

I don't know about that for sure, but if 4.5 GHz is the max you could get stable, why would you want to try to get the cpu to push beyond that?

4.5 isnt the max I can go, its just where I want to be most of the times,
I wanted to know If I could have some sort of turbo boost to push my cpu
when needed

Standard Turbo adds +1 to the CPU multiplier.

Assuming you are now running 22.5 x 200MHz, a Turbo on your OC would be 23.5 x 200MHz, or 4.7GHz. The over-riding issue is the volts to the Turbo'd core(s) are boosted --- which is also likely to wack stability. Controlling that volt boost is the key.

I'd give it a try but certainly drop back your initial multiplier, enable Turbo, and work/adjust your way up to it.

The CPU is only going to operate at max when needed, it won't just run 4.5 (or whatever frequency) GHz 100% of the time. I'd just go to the max stable OC you can get, and let it do its thing. At this point whatever OC you reach effectively is the boost. That said, what Wisecracker said is pretty good advice as well. Trying to force boost will just cause your stability to do whatever the hell it wants (as computers are wont to do at times).

You need to:
a) Do more reading on overclocking the FX-8350 in general, and

b) Read about your exact MOTHERBOARD capabilities (there's quite a difference between motherboards sometimes in how they allow you to do things)

Alternatively, some motherboards have pretty good overclocking software that will pick the optimal combination of settings assuming it remains stable and within temperature.

However, there are a LOT of different settings and when you start messing with them some features get disabled.
