overclock question: max clock boost

hey everyone,

i'm very new to the overclocking, needless to say that i'm very afraid of doing anything wrong. I'll try to keep it as simple as possible.

I have a gtx 770 PNY 2 GB

base clock: 1045
boost clock: 1085
(not touching the mem for now)

I tried many overclock with MSI afterburner, I got to +130, ran several 3DMark benchmarks, successful

Crashed at +140.

But, the boost clock I read are the same at exactly +118 and up, which means I'm not gaining any extra performance from the +130 OC.

What is causing this?

It may be thermal limitations enforced by nvidia gpu boost. It will reduce clockspeed if the card runs too hot.

ok, so i looked a bit, and it wasn't the temp but the voltage, I set the mV at +12 (the max I could on MSI AB) and got to 1241 vs 1228.

Which means to achieve higher clocks i need to unlock the voltages even further. Bios editing and things I don't understand.

Guess I'll keep it like this for now.
