So I am quite late in getting a Skylake CPU and I wondered if it would be at all possible to overclock it given the right motherboard. I then read that Intel was stopping this. Any info as to this now would be great as I don't know if I should spend extra money on a Z170 mobo.

Thanks in advance

Asrock has a couple of motherboards that can overclock the locked Skylake CPU's without the need for a special Bios.

Thank you very much. I'm guessing that they can be over clocked the same way as they used to be (if that makes sense).

Intel was not pleased about this - ASRock disabled SKY OC in a BIOS update a couple of months ago.

These two boards have an external clock generator to accomplish the Bclock overclocking, nothing Intel can do about it. See the link above for more info.

I found this link with downloads for BIOS to overclock non-K series motherboards so I was wondering if I could get a Z170 motherboard, install an older BIOS and then overclock the i3 6100.
Here is the link: http://overclocking.guide/overclocking-non-k-intel-skylake-cpus-performance-tests/

I don't know the answer to that one. i've heard that reverting to an older Bios supporting overclocking was made impossible and I've also heard it was possible.
