Overclocked CPU crashing Nvidia display driver?

Hello,

Since putting together my new rig I have been having multiple display driver crashes daily. You know the one "Nvidia display driver has stopped responding and recovered."

I uninstalled driver 335.23 and also used Driver Sweeper to make sure it was a full uninstall. I then re-installed 331.82 hoping an older driver would be more stable. No luck, still getting 3-5 second black screens and the display driver notice. Note: I have not overclocked the 650Ti at all, it is at stock settings.

Now I am wondering if overclocking my CPU has anything to do with the display driver problem? I have overclocked my i7 3770k to 4.2ghz and when I run a stress test all is well.

The display seems to mostly when I am just running simple tasks in Windows, or just in my browser. I don't think the display driver has ever crashed while playing a game. I also have not had any blue screens to speak of.

I have just recently reset the CPU to stock settings and will wait to see if I get anymore display driver crashes. However, I would really love to keep my i7 overclocked if possible. Any experience or advise in this matter is greatly appreciated!

My build
PSU: Rosewill 900w
CPU: i7 3770k
GPU: GTX 650Ti
Mobo: ASRock z77 extreme4
Memory: Corsair 16GB 1600

Thank you for the response. Do you have any other advise for troubleshooting my display driver problem? Something else I tried was moving the GPU from 1st PCI-e slot to the 2nd slot as I had read that this worked for some other people dealing with this issue. No luck for me, however.

Yup, running CPU at stock now and have been doing so for the last hour. No display driver crashes, yet.

hmn, i am not an expert, but since you are on oc, double check that you have set your pci-e clock (sorry forgot the term) to the default 100mhz, not auto. i think it is somehow link, when you oc.

again, i can be wrong but it would not hurt to check. when i oc'ed, i've read somewhere that it should be set to 100mhz, mine is, no issues up to now. i have a 2500k, so it's been a while
