Ok, I am debating between these 3 CPUs.

Microcenter sell them for cheap so money isnt really too much of a factor, but if i get the fx i can get a nice cpu cooler.

Okay time to get to the point

if I were to OC a FX-8320 to 4.2-4.5 ghz per say. Would that have equivalent performance to a stock i5 3750/4670 in gaming?

Oh and for a mobo, my max budget would be around $120 with the AMD, and $100 with the Intel.

Looks good. I'd go for a bigger PS if you want some headroom for a video card upgrade in the future. Removing the PS is a PITA, you're basically completely rebuilding.

You'll probably be limited in gaming performance with any of the 3 by your video card more so than the CPU. I have a 8320 and I'm very happy, if one of the choices gives you an extra $80 for graphics then that would be my choice.

Well at least you have a nice MB and CPU for a killer HTPC build. What res are you gaming at?

I have an 8320 @ 4.4 and a 6950 which I think is pretty much on par with a 7850. I run 3x1080p eyefinity without issue, nothing ultra obviously but I'm satisfied.

If you're keeping the video card then getting the fastest CPU is probably be best route (4670).

Well, BF3, MW2, and Far Cry 3 will have generally about the same performance no matter which CPU (of the three) you choose. So if that was the only point, you could likely go with the cheapest (8320).

But if you like playing older games, or certain games (LoL, WoW, Skyrim, to name a few), you'll benefit greatly from an Intel CPU.

And as well, Minecraft is more single core intensive; in that it prefers a CPU with strong single cores (Intel).

So since you live near a microcenter, I'd suggest either the 3570/4670. And since you won't be overclocking, you really won't need an aftermarket cooler for your CPU.

I do not have a killer mobo. Let me tell you my story as of now. I have bought an HP computer summer of 2012 back when i was a naive little console gamer switching over to pc.
Its specs were
A10-5700
10 GB generic 1600 mhz ram
1 tb hitachi sata drive
some crappy OEM motherboard with the most horrible bios

It was able to run bf3 med settings on my old monitor 1440x900 at 30 fps.

November 2013 i bought the msi r7850 2gb OC to step up my computers performance, i had also changed my monitor to a 1680x1050 resolution monitor. But I have noticed that when i play games with many people or look into the distance of a game such as BF3 my frame rates dip below 30.

This summer im going to get new parts.

CPU
CPU Cooler (only if AMD CPU)
Computer case
PSU
Motherboard

i have a max budget of around 450$

i usually play newer games.

what is the single core performance from the 8320 vs the a10-5700?

if i get the 8320 im definitely going to OC it to alteast 4.2. with the help of a CM 212 ofc

Clock for clock I don't think there's much difference between the 83xx and your a10, but you'll be at 4+ with the 8320 vs your current 3.4. 4.2 won't be a problem with the 212.

I'm more interested in multitasking capabilities, that's why I went FX vs 4 core Intel. I do a lot of encoding while working and watching HD TV via a card card tuner on my 4th monitor all at the same time. Honestly all of the CPUs your looking at are fine choices, I personally would go with what is the most bang for the buck.

@1680x1050 or 1080p with a 8320 you'll be good to go all day for gaming and serious multitasking. Although that's likely also true with any of the 3 choices. Sorry there's not a more definitive answer but its not like you're comparing good vs bad, they're all good and slightly better than one another in different ways.

Oh boy. It really won't make a huge difference now, but 8gbs is enough, yank it. You might notice a slight improvement in your game play. Make sure the 2x4 are in the correct slots though for dual channel with 2 sticks.

The A series loves fast ram for graphics, faster the better. I bet your game play, before the 7850 purchase, would have been effected quite a bit in single channel vs dual.

Check out the charts on this page. In single channel mode you're conceptually 1/2 of the rated speed of your RAM from those charts.

whoops. not letting you go too easily XD

yeah, in 2015 im planning on upgrading my 7850 to a 280x or something. but i would say that 550w is completely fine.
