Overclocked GTX 1070 vs Overclocked GTX 980 ti (or Titan X)

I'm looking for an overclocked comparison of the 1070 to either the 980 or Titax X. If anyone could help get an apples-to-apples comparison, I would appreciate it. Everything on line shows the 1070 with a max overclock on the same graph as the 980 ti and Titan X running at stock speeds, which is highly misleading (here's one example of doing this from Gamer's Nexus, but everyone else is too). The 980 ti and Titan X overclock more than the 1070, so that comparison is like comparing a stock Corolla to the rally car version of it, which obviously makes no sense (see pics below).

My impression is that the 980 ti and Titan X overclock further than the 1070, so my working hypothesis is that the 980 ti and Titan X are potentially faster cards than the 1070, once you factor in the max overclocks. I'm not talking about any special cooling setups. Just what you can get on a stock cooler's overclock in a case with good airflow in an air-conditioned room

From what I've seen and tested on the 980 ti and Titan X, they can run stable on average about 1450 Mhz, and the 1070 can run stable about 2000 Mhz. So, I'm looking to see the benchmarks for the cards running at those speeds. Please chime in if you have the data.

Thanks!

[THESE COROLLAS ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT COMPARABLE, JUST LIKE THE 1070 OC TO TITAN X STOCK ISN'T]

This seems to be a review comparing 1080/1070/Titan/980Ti all overclocked: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/nvidia_geforcegtx_1070_overclocking/
Has the 1070 trading blows with the 980 Ti/Titan depending on game. Given the similar performance, the 1070 definitely seems like a better buy with newer tech and lower cost/power consumption.

Hell yea! That's what I'm talking about. I definitely suspected that the bigger Maxwell chips had more in them than the cut back Pascal chips. I definitely didn't think that the 980 ti or Titan X would be faster than the 1080, nor do I think that they will keep up with the big Pascal chips (maybe 1080 ti, or whatever they call it). If they stick with the same naming scheme that's been around, the chip will be PG110, PG200, or PG210 and maybe have an "A" or "B" after it, compared to the PG104 out right now.

Those chips will likely be worth the upgrade for people on the GM200-A (i.e. 980 ti or Titan X). That will be something to see if Nvidia keeps bringing its game like it has been. Though, I'm also rooting for AMD to pull out something amazing. They are long overdue to knock a GPU out of the park.

I sold my asus gtx 980 ti matrix platinum and bought Msi gaming x 1070 for almost nothing on top. The max OC i was able to get from the 980ti was 1470 with GPU Boost. My current 1070 is reaching 2050-2080 with gpu boost and running stable, the heat on the 980ti was skyrocketing 80-85c in 4k while my current 1070 is running fine around 65-75c depends on my fan setting(Very silent). In term of performance i mainly play Black ops 3 multiplayer in 4k, the performance is extremely similar but still the 1070 is faster about 2-5 fps max. Im happy with my decision because of couple of things:
1- The Msi gaming x 1070 run way cooler than my old 980ti Matrix especially while playing in 4k.
2- The 1070 have 2gb extra VRAM which can be beneficial and more future proof(Which i dont believe in future proof in 4k as the current card in the market barely running smoothly in 4k)
3- I bought this card mainly because im waiting for the 1080ti and i want a card that will have high resale value when the 1080ti is released.

If i were you, i will be looking at the price difference between the 980ti and 1070; if the price is the same then go with the 1070, if the 980ti is way cheaper(100$++) then get the 980ti. Good luck.

Yeah, for sure. My point was mainly curiosity. I already have a Titan X, which works fine for everything I do. The online presentation is pretty shady, so I appreciate everyone here putting up apples-to-apples comparisons.

Another point of curiosity I have is whether Nvidia instructed reviewers to give cherry-picked data points to make Pascal look better. Since the main review sites seem to have done that, and the smaller ones didn't, it doesn't seem very far fetched.
