My googling skills suck apparently. I'm trying find a guide on overclocking (optimizing) my 7700x.

A link would be fine

I don't want to punch in arbitrary PPT TDC EDC values without knowing how they're derived. or what PBO modes do ( pbo1,2,3,4, enhanced pbo1,2,3 , etc)

I haven't tweaked a desktop CPU since haswell... 3 voltages, CPU turbo and uncore multiplier, before that was phenom II :1 voltage 1 multiplier, before that used the pencil trick. Alas all that knowledge doesn't transfer to new Ryzen's

My understanding is that PBO is the way to go. If you do a manual overclock you basically sacrifice single core speeds for multicore speeds. Just monitor temperatures and clock speeds.

A good summary and a few videos:

Depends on why you're overclocking - what you're trying to accomplish.

For gaming type use, PBO likely is the best option.

My priority is Handbrake which will use most/all cores on my 5950x. For this purpose an all-core OC works far better than PBO.
