ok, i have the AMD athlon dual core 5000 and it is running at 2.6ghz and i was wondering if it would be easy to up it to 2.7 or 2.8. the question is will it give me any real performance boost.
my specs are

AMD Athlon 5000 X2
3GB Kingston RAM (! and a 2GB) both at 800mhz
Mainboard- ECS GF8200A
Video- integrated
530W PSU

i did change something that brought my CPU up to 2.7ghz but i restored default settings because i really have no idea what i changed and i was like, Ohh crap, and so now its at stock. i am useing the stock cooler and i heard people can get there CPU to 2.8 - 3.0 with stock and at a load it goes a little over 45C. and My RAM has no heat spreader but it dosnt overheat so i think it could be OCed a little if needed.

so, if its worth it to do this what should i change to up the speed.

In the Bios you can increase the the Referance clock (FSB) from 200 to higher using increments of 5. and running a orthos stress test after every increase. If you can run orthos for 3 min you can move on to the next increment of 5.

you should be able to get to a reference clock of 225.
your ram speed will go up as you increase the reference clock. you might have to underclock it but most likely not.

once you get your reference clock to

.........once you get your speed to where you like lets say 2.8 run an orthos blend test. if you can get over 24 hours things are good.

I do not think heat will be a big problem but I could be wrong.
I was not an issue for me. but I have a different motherboard

Just take it slow and stop where you are comfortable..

Stupid me hit the Submit. and I cant edit my posts.

Heat issues?? what heat issues? I have my X2 5000+ BE from 2.6 to 3.2 and max temps are 47ish.....thats with an AC Feeezer 64 Pro

to the OP.....i doubt ur ECS mobo will allow much change.
