Overclocking AMD FX-6300 cpu

Hi,

I am looking at overclocking my FX-6300 but I have a couple of questions which I am hoping you will be able to answer for me. The first one is what is the highest I can safely overclock this processor to and how would you suggest I go about doing this? The second is what cooling would you suggest (my case is a Zalman Z11 plus) to keep this processor cool?

Not all 6300s are created equal. You may not reach what someone else has reached with theirs. Cooling and motherboard are big factors in overclocking. What motherboard do you have? You could get a Cooler Master 212 evo and overclock to 4.4 or 4.5 pretty easily, I would think, if you have a 990FX motherboard. 200-300mhz less with a 970 motherboard. It depends on the quality of your chip.

Hi,

my motherboard is an asus m5a97 R2.0 I was looking at the 212 evo but wasn't sure if it would fit in my case.

EDIT: after a search I found that it will fit into my case so I probably will get an evo 212
