I am a complete newbie when it comes to overclocking, and was on a pretty tight budget when I built my system. I read somewhere that my mobo (listed below) is not capable of extreme OC which I am totally fine with. I just want to know how I can make sure that any overclocking I do is safe/stable, and how to do it on my motherboard!

Specs:
fx-6300
Hyper 212 evo with Arctic Silver 5 (idling at 15°-22°C w/out oc)
gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 mobo
3x4gb G.Skill 1600mhz ram
400W PSU
EVGA gtx 750ti

Any help would be appreciated!

I would not attempt to overclock on that motherboard. I would also recommend a higher power supply before attempting to overclock.

That motherboard's power delivery system is not designed for overclocking at all. And without knowing the make and model of your power supply, I can't say I approve of it either. I would not recommend overclocking on this system.

My power supply is EVGA bronze certified. I am not really going for anything extreme, all I want is to get to a stable ~3.7-3.8Ghz, and that's it. My total PC power consumption is ~250W under load, so that's why I assumed that 400W would be enough. Also, if I were to replace my motherboard/PSU, what would you recommend?

Would the MSI 970 suffice? I am looking into getting a new PC for my birthday (which was yesterday 😉) and give away my current one to my brother. Probably same processor, but a gtx 960/970 and an EVGA 500W PSU.
