Hi everybody. I've got an old gaming laptop ASUS ROG Strix with i7-6700HQ, GTX1060 6GB hardware. Is it possible at all to overclock this CPU using Throttlestop or any other similar app? The CPU is locked and can't be overclocked from BIOS. I'm totally new to overclocking CPUs/GPUs. Right now it clocks at 3.1Ghz when all cores are utilized which is what happens when I play games. I know it's a little bit complicated but my natural, "uneducated" question: can I open ThrottleStop, open FIVR window and set all core multipliers to, say, x33 and have CPU clock at 3.3Ghz (BCLK is 100Mhz) on all cores? I would of course have to overvolt it a little. It currently draws about 30W (+/- 2-3W) when gaming. TDP is 45W, so theoretically I have 15W headroom. I still have 10-15 deg. C headroom in cooling department and my PSU is rated at 180W (should be enough too).

I don't believe so. IIRC only the HK processors were unlocked and even so you don't have the cooling for it. I used to have an Asus G752 with the 6700HQ in it and that 9lb brick of a chassis with heatpipes comparable to some small desktop coolers could barely keep that chip at the same 3.1 Ghz sustained. Even if you could OC to the 3.3Ghz you're hoping for you won't notice a lick of difference besides the increased fan noise. It's not worth the performance improvement let alone the risk.

HQ is unlocked cpu. but depend on your bios. you can try overclock via bios, or try unlock advanced setting to overclock. have you try intel xtu?(old vesion)
