My set up is i7 6700k
asus strix OC gtx 1080
16gb ddr4 2400mhz
I currently have a 29 inch LG ultrawide 2560x1080p monitor. 60 hz.
It is currently overclocked to 75hz(also through nvidia control panel) refresh and I have been running at that refresh basically since I got the monitor.
I only recently realized I can change the resolution to 3440x1440p resolution. It is not the monitors native resolution but seems to easily accept the change through Nvidia control panel. Supported games such as the Witcher 3 and PUBG both play the game wonderfully at this resolution and with a good Overclock my card can maintain my 75hz refresh rate on both of these titles and a few others I have tried at that resolution.
That being said, is forcing the monitor or my GPU to render the display at a non-native resolution an issue? Can this damage either the monitor or my GPU over time or the fact that my card can handle that resolution not make it an issue? Please advise....Its very nice having the extra pixels but if its at the expense of the life of my hardware I would just as easily revert it back to 2560x1080.
