Overclocking Asus GTX460

Hi all, what the best and easiest program to use to overclock this card?

Just want a decent stable overclock without any voltage increase.

It comes with Asus Smartdoctor but I'm sure there are better overclocking tools.

MSI Afterburner and Kombuster. Afterburner is used to set the overclock and Kombuster is used to test it. Afterburner allows you to save multiple overclock profiles. You can also create custom fan profiles.

Definitely Afterburner. Smartdoctor won't let you overclock very far because it is capped at like 800mhz.

Ok, cool. Whats the general OC ing rule then. Core then memory, 5mhz a time or both together??

One at a time. Start with the core then the ram. Overclocking the ram doesn't effect performance as much as the core does.

When running Kombuster how do you know if it detects a fault?

I'm up to 850 core, the shader seems linked to the core.

I'm running Kombuster for 15 mins then 3dMark as a double check.

if it is unstable you will either see distortions in the animation like flickering shapes, discolored pixels (called artifacts), your driver will crash, or the computer will just lock up. If everything looks okay for 15 min, and it goes through 3dmark (use Vantage if you aren't) okay, the next step is to play a game for a while, and if everything looks okay it is stable.

Just got artifacts at 900mhz core, ok at 875mhz with no voltage increase.

Mem up to 2005mhz and counting.

Overclocking results.

Default- Core 700 - Shader 1400 - Mem 1840

OC'd - Core 875 - Shader 1750 - Mem 2110 (no voltage increase.)

Apparantly thats pretty tasty.

Congrats, that's a pretty good overclock on stock volts
