I'm going to build a PC and am a little confused with overclocking. Somewheres I read overclocking cpu automatically overclocks ram. How does this work, and what is the difference between this and overclocking a ram directly?
Overclocking CPU increases the ram speed is not the complete information, CPU multiplier and the Memory multiplier are independent.
Increase the CPU multiplier, basic overclocking only increases the CPU frequency.
And if one change Base Clock, Bclk then yes the speed of ram changes.
All this is pretty much old, a lot has chnges since now
Now you can overclock the CPU separately from the memory and can have memory speed as much you want.
If you increase your motherboards BCLK setting that will effect your RAM and your PCIe speeds.
If you OC your CPU with the Frequency Multiplier then your RAM and PCIe speeds will not be effected.
