Cpu : Amd Phenom x4 b55
i used amd catalyst control center to auto tune oc from 3.2 to 3.9 , which tests voltages etc, and it let me oc to 3.9 ghz, i wanted to monitor the temperature of the cpu to make sure it wasnt going to kill itself, to do this, i jumped into Assasins creed 4 and played for 10 mins or so, ( i was also on skype ) it all seemed absolutely fine, until i got a black screen and the skype call ended, this is where i was like oh.... my friend said he ended the call because he heard a weird noise coming from skype, the noise apparently appeared 20 seconds before he ended the call, but the call ended at the same time as my black screen, so my guess is that skype died, after the black screen i couldnt do anything so i ctrl alt delete as you do, opened task manager, i had no cursor at all, assasins creed 4 stopped responding and so i logged off and back on, at this point Skype started as it does, and crashed instantly ( i wasnt overclocked at this point i set it back to normal after the black screen i used switch user to get the cursor back but still couldnt click on most applications ) so everytime skype started, it would give me a random error, not the same error, many different errors, i opened chrome and chrome was bieng weird too, all new tabs were blue or "aw snap" etc etc, so i restarted.... since my restart i reinstalled skype, and now it works, chrome worked, but im not sure whether it was just skype died or not, because event log only shows errors around the time of the crash to be skype only... maybe i oc'd my cpu a little too much, any help to prevent this or solutions? as i want to oc my cpu without my pc dying

Pc specs: Psu : 650w antec gold etc... Cpu : Amd Phenom x4 b55 ....
Gpu : amd hd 7770 ( asus version ) ... ram : 10gb .... Motherboard : asus m4a88t-v Evo

With an OC, there is always a chance of instability. I would back off on the OC, and see if the system is more stable at this point.

The auto overclock is not always the way to go. While there are reports of 4 GHz OC with the Phenon II X4 b55, yours may only do in the 3.5 to 3.8 GHz range. You can also add a little voltage to see if that stabilizes it or not (we're talking an additional 0.1).

Here is an OC guide to that CPU:

Thankyou, i took it down to 3.7 and it was absolutely fine and ive upped it to 3.8 atm and so far its fine... it probably was skype tbh, because event viewer only showed that skype died lol,
