HI, I have a
Gigabyte P35C-DS3R Socket 775
Intel Core 2 Duo 45nm EO 65W E8400 3.00 GHz 1333Mhz
6GB DDR2
* 2x2Gb Corsair XMS2 E8500 1066MHz 2.1V 5-5-5-15*
Windows 7 64Bit

I'm looking to push this to 3.8GHz but after I save the change to the bios and restart the system it will start to boot then cycle and boot but the changes I made default back to what they were before I changed them. This happens no matter what changes I make.
I don't understand, is this normal?

OK so I am still trying different settings in the Bios to overclock but none seem to work I found a forum that gave some ideas as to what to try but I can't seem to get any of them to work.

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1280541

My next step is updating the bios.

Still hopping someone can lend assistance with this.

Update the BIOS, then will want to raise the FSB to desired level, raise the vCore up about + 0.1 and the NB voltage about 0.075 or so and try that, it's been awhile but think that might carry you or get you started

Great thanks for your reply I will give that a try just as soon as I can get the Bios updated. I'm having alot of trouble with updating the Bios to the point I opened another topic on it.

OK got the Bios updated to F12. Now to try to overclock the system.

I am going to try the settings you suggested Tradesman1

OK so I pushed the vCore to 1.25625V so up by 0.0625 as that was the next level and I changed the (G)MCH Voltage Control up by 0.1 (NB Voltage)
vCore:
Was - 1.25000
Now - 1.25625
now going to leave the system run wile I'm at work see how she holds up.

In addition I also removed the two 1Gb sticks of Ram after reading about mixing different Ram types I determined that the 1Gb sticks and the 2x2Gb stick were much to different.

This may be a dumb question, and I mean no offense, but are you "saving" your changes when you exit the BIOS?

Yogi

HAHA yea not a dumb question at all but yes I am saving each time I update. The new changes are taking after the Bios update now I'm just working to see what the Max OC I am able to push the system to is.

OK - Thanks!

Good luck with the OC!

Yogi

OK so close to 8hrs later and the computer still running fine good temps and no issues found.
Next step how do I go about building the OC up. I am unsure with this new Bios interface. I am going to try the link I posted in the beginning to see if the settings mentioned in that discussion work.

If anyone has settings to bump the Ghz from 3.0 to 3.8 I would be very happy to give them a try.

Also any advice on OCing the RAM would be much appreciated.

OK So I attempted your recommendations, only thing in the FSB settings are not able to be put to 1600 they go up by 0.01 the 0.02 then 0.03 and that's it, I boosted the FSB up to 0.03V. there is no other options for FSB. I boosted the vCore up to 1.3
Now I am monitoring with speccy and I show good temps so far but the CPU is still running at 3.0 and I have yet to see a difference in performance.
Can you recommend a better program to use?

I am going to leave the computer run over night and see if she crashes. I'll update in 8hrs..

Ok well I'm not sure how to do that. I see nothing listed as FSB Frequency. Now I'm starting to feel like an idiot maybe you can lay it out for me, I'm sorry I have racked my brain to try to figure out what you are talking about and I have looked it up on google but to no aval. I have the Bios up to date to the newest update for my board F12. I would like to OC this system because I know it's possible but I need a walk threw on this. Sorry if this is asking to much man I appreciate all your affords.
Cheers

Thanks Tradesman1 I appreciate the help I'm just having a great deal of trouble finding it. I finally figured out what FSB stands for (Front Side Bus) and now I'm able to ajust it. I tried to put it to 400 which made the Mhz up to 3.6 but the system rebooted three times and defaulted back to 3.0 I tried putting it to 3.4 Mhz and again it rebooted and defaulted back to 3.0 I think you might be correct with the theory that the max this board will support is the 3.0
That sucks because I have read on mutipal fourms that this board with this CPU will support over 4.0 if set correctly. But maybe my board just doesn't wanna OC.
I am going to try again later tonight after work to put it up little by little from 3.0 and see what the max I can push is.

I am curiouse how to figure out what to change the vCore and MCH Voltage too so it will support the CPU speed change.
- IS there a formula I can use?

Again I appreciate all your help. and any other suggestions you might have.

So I experimented... and nothing seems to work on this system. I even tried adjusting to 3.02Ghz and 1.3000V vCore and still it will start to boot and then crash then boot with the FSB set to disabled. I am to the point where I think this system just doesn't want to be OC'd.
It's strange that I have read forums that people with the same CPU and board with less RAM are able to push to 3.6Ghz and be stable.
I dunno. well I appreciate all the help Tradesman1 but I think I'm to the point where I would need someone here to test it them selves. I think I'll wait till I get my new video card and just run it with the defaults.
Maybe I'm not meant to OC this system.
Cheers.

May take higher than 1.3 on the CPU, might just jump and try vCore at 1.335 or so - (it's rated up to 1.365 9which means it can go higher than that) , but try 1.335 - if it works can scale it down till it loses stability

OK I will give that a Try.
Thanks Again for all your help.
Cheers

OK so tried with the CPU at 3.02 and pushed the vCore to 1.3 and still reset then pushed the vCore up to 1.40625V with CPU at 3.02 and still will not boot with out resetting.
I don't know what to say or do. I'm at a loss. Maybe this system will not OC. But as always I'm open to suggestions.
