How to overclock a cpu? And how far can go the fx 8320 on stock voltage? My cooler is a cooler master hyper 212 evo and my MoBo is a crosshair V formula-Z.

Solution

Depends on the chip, they are all a little different.

You'll need some tools, like Prime 95 and something to monitor the CPU temp.

Increase the multiplier first, by 1. Run Prime95 stress test and monitor the temperature, you want it under 70. The FX chips rarely use all 8 cores at once, so 70 is safe for Prime95.

Keep increasing by one until Prime95 fails, or you can't boot, or you bluescreen.

At that point, drop the multiplier down, and move the Voltage up a small amount, the lowest interval the motherboard will allow it to go (usually just push =/+ key) and keep trying from there.

The FX chips get hot, so I don't imagine you'll get to...

I agree!

You can over clock in the BIOS by changing the multiplier. Also, AMD overdrive can do it. I would recommend the BIOS.

The FX chips get hot, so I don't imagine you'll get to far on that heatsink before the temp starts hitting 70. On the FX8350, I had to switch from the Noctua NH12 to the H100 to get it from 4.4 to 4.8.
