Overclocking i5 4670k

I know there are many threads about the subject, but they're quite confusing. So can someone please explain a safe (i know it isn't always 100 % safe) but my i5 4670k comes with 3.4 ghz and i just want to overclock it to 4 ghz. I have the Hyper 212 EVO and Asus z87-k.

Going from 3.4Ghz to 4Ghz is a pretty mild overclock, so all you should have to do is adjust the CPU multiplier to 40 in the BIOS. You can fiddle with voltages to bring the temperature down, but it's not very necessary for what you want to achieve.

What is a normal/average/recommended CPU voltage with an i5 4670k when it's overclocked to 4ghz or around that? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question!

No worries, it's difficult to say as each processor and motherboard will vary. The easiest way to find out is to leave the voltage on auto and see what it's set to. You can use that as a yardstick and reduce the voltage from there until it becomes unstable. A Prime95 test for about an hour should be long enough to verify stability.

My overclock is 4.2Ghz at 1.2V but I have an older processor.
