So my motherboard is a Z97, while my processor is an i7 4790, and apperently a computer expert says that i can overlock my i7 even though its not unlocked, and the reason behind that is because the z97 motherboard.
And now i want to know if i can overlock, and is it safe to overlock on a non K CPU...

Max multiplier of 40. 40x100Mhz = 4.0Ghz

Non-K chips don't support non 100Mhz straps, so you are stuck there. But, if you take the BCLK to 105 or so you can get an extra 100Mhz, not really worth it, and as mentioned above, other components might become unstable.

I would just set the max multiplier to 4.0 Ghz, as long as you have decent cooling, and leave it at that.
