Hey long time since I overclocked, last time was with the 4670k with kraken x61. Now it is time for my new i7 4790k on my kraken x61 too but with stock fans. My question is if ITB is still ok for stress testing or if I should use something else. I tried with all threads and it went up to I think max 72 on core 2 or 3. I feel that is a bit high for stock but what I've heard it is normal for the devil cannyon cpu's to go up that high. Anyways what do you guys think I should try for speeds and volts?

MB: MSI Z97s SLI krait edition

CPU: i7 4790k

CPU Cooler: NZXT kraken x61 with stock fans, swapping out for custom loop when getting 2nd 980Ti.

Thanks in advance, Anthony

EDIT: I am not sure about temps but I would not be comfortable over 85, I think 85c is max where I stopped with my i5, meaning that I didn't push it further after hitting 85c, I know I should try to keep my vcore low too cause that is the main factor of temps increasing.

Aight, ty, what should I try pushing to? I am going to try pushing the multipliers first before trying to change things with my vcore to not get the temps that high up. My room has gotten hotter as it was stone cold first so my CPU was at 20c idle now it is around 30c because it has gotten warmer 😛

Whatever you're comfortable with. I like to find the highest voltage the stock settings will allow, then set that voltage manually. Then I just take the multiplier up as high as I can without crashing in a benchmark. My 4770k hits 4.5 at 1.225v. ~80c max temp.

you mean you like to find the highest clock the stock setting allows right? Cause that is what I did on my i5, like highest vcore would be killing your CPU XD

Is ITB fine? And what settings if so? Extreme, normal and so on and all threads right? And what should I montior my temps with, realtemp?

Yes, sorry! I worded that badly. I meant to say the highest voltage achieved by auto settings, or otherwise the highest the voltage will go within stock clock settings. It should be in the 1.2v range if I'm not mistaken. I use intel burn in test for stress testing, and open hardware monitor or HWmonitor for monitoring temps.

What do you go on ITB? Extreme or normal and so on? And is RealTemp fine? I mean I got them both but Realtemp is easier imo 😛

Ok, So I went for 4.3Ghz with stock volts and it worked perfectly, pushing higher with stock voltage, one concern is that on my motherboard there is no manual setting on vcore. So I went with auto, techyescity did a vid for i5 4670/90k and had it on auto, does auto work like manual or what should I choose? I can choose auto and some other settings too, I think override one was called.

Auto can work for light overclocks. The problem with it, though, is that it isn't consistent. Your voltage will constantly bounce up and down and a more extreme overclock will most likely require a constant voltage. There are other power state controls in the bios that you may consider turning off. There are lots of tutorials out there for overclocking the 4770k/4790k.

Problem is, I cant find any with same mobo so it aint the same settings, anyways, had to leave it at that as I had to go to my moms place. Thanks and please keep the thread alive 😛
