Question Overclocking old CPU

Hi,
I have a Amd athlon 2 x4 640 which is a bit old. I was wondering if I could overclock it or is it too old?
Here the specs:

• Gtx 960
• 500w
• 8gb ddr3
• 1tb hdd
• msi 870a-g54
• Amd athlon 2 x4 640

I don't think you would get any worthwhile results as you would have to also improve cooling and as for "too old" it's more about old MB that might not survive it.
