OK guys!

I just bought GTA4 PC and have got some question to ask! I already bought a new motherboard(nForce610i) coz i needed PCI-E slot for my new 512 Graphic card GeForce 8400GS.
I am able to play with my 3Ghz processor but it doesnt run that well.(I can play though)

Now I want to know if getting a C2D 2.6 processor would be a good investment or if overclocking can help me get decent results.

Thanks!

the 8400 gs gfx card is a bit too budget to play games well so no matter what you do with the cpu that will have to change too .

A C2D is probably a sensible upgrade but not all models will be compatible with your motherboard . You need to check to see what will work at the manufacturers website .

Check out the charts on this site to see how gfx cards perform . Maybe on a budget you need a radeon 4850 or an 8800gt

first off nvidia mobos are junk

what i mean if you want high fsb, low operating temps, high reliability and the best performance. THE ONLY REASON TO BUY A NIVIDA MOBO IS IF YOU NEED SLI!

EBAY THE MOBO! get a good intel mobo
used (open box or ebay) p35 will run 380-400fsb and last for years and years

at 2.6ghz you hardly need a cooler! the first e6300 in mid 2006 all ran 2.8ghz and if you got higher multiper then you got 3.2-3.4

today all c2d run 3.8ghz if you can match the multipler and fsb

i.e.
e7200 will run in about any mobo at 3.6ghz

e8600 will break 4ghz in even a nvidia mobo

investiage what i say you find your answers

i can have a C2D on my mobo... i'v checked that. How does a cpu affect game performance then? The system requirement on the disk says i need a 256 graqphic card... i'v got double...

The reviews I've read says that GTA 4 is unplayable on single core cpus. You really should have checked the minimum requirements before you bought the game:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8
Memory: 1.0 GB (Windows XP) 1.5 GB (Windows Vista)
Graphics Hardware: 256 MB Nvidia 7900 / 256 MB ATI X1900
---------------------------------------
Im not sure how 8400gs compares to 7900, but I seriously doubt you'll be able to get playable framerates (it might depend on how good a cpu you get).

So you will most likely also need a new graphics card.

i ressurreted my favorite thread from aug 07

it says 3.6 the new 4.1

you need to set up you cpu for 3.6 for q6600 or higher for dual cores

4.1-4.2 is great spot for dual cores

The system requirements there are are misleading. Having double the memory on that graphics card does not mean a thing because it's not meant for gaming. You just can't look at memory on a card and determine if it's good or not there are other factors that determine how it will perform and where it ranks in the graphics card hierarchy. Read the best graphics cards for the money article which is here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-geforce-graphics,2086.html and get a new video card.

BTW according to the graphics card hierarchy chart in that article it has similar overall performance to Geforce 4 Ti 4600, 4 Ti 4800, FX 5700 Ultra, 6200. Which is kinda sad for today's games

To run GTA IV well on medium settings you will need:
3Ghz+ Quad Core CPU, 4Gb RAM, 512Mb+ GFX like a Nvidia 8800GT / 9800series / GTX2x0 or ATI HD3870 / HD48x0.

Low - medium settings you want a 3Ghz+ Dual core, 2Gb RAM and one of the Gfx cards already mentioned.

The game is massively CPU dependant
