Can I overclock my i3 540 with an H55 motherboard?

On a related note, if you're looking to get as much speed as you can out of this socket, the i5-680 is a really great upgrade. I have several of these and am about to upgrade another i3-540 to an i5-680. It's a serious kick in the pants:

I disagree about the i5 sure it will be better than an i3 but for not much more you can get an i7 860 and have more threads to play with

SamirD recommended to get an i5 and I recommend an i7 because you can get them for so cheap anyways so might as well get 4 extra threads

Basically the i7 is a better processor and is capable of doing more at once.
