I am a long time console gamer. I have a ps4, which I use everyday and love. However, I finished my my pc a few months ago and have been enjoying total war games on it very much. Being both a console and pc gamer I have this insecurity when I play games on my pc. You see when I play games on my ps4 I generally know that it will run fine and I will have no problems. But with my pc I'm always paranoid I'm overheating something or stressing my computer too much. I'm really excited for Fallout 4 and that's one of the main reasons I built my pc, but the paranoid side of me just wants to maybe get it on ps4 for the peace of mind. Obviously I have a beastly pc so in theory I should have no issues running Fallout 4. I'm just trying to shake that feeling of paranoia and be able to chill when pc gaming. Advice?

Gotcha. Maybe have a drink or a smoke before you play :) Helps me with similar anxieties.

On a more practical note, you can get a hardware monitoring software (can't think of the one I use, and I'm at work right now) but that will show your CPU temps/usage, GPU temps/usage, RAM usage etc. Could help keep you at ease. . .

I know what you're talking about though. I built my first machine about a year ago and had similar feelings. You get over it, you just keep playing games on it, and troubleshooting little issues, and that all adds to your confidence.

You can download a program like HWMonitor to monitor your temps.

You generally do not have to worry too much about overheating unless you are overclocking or you did not apply thermal paste on your CPU properly. Most PC gamer's anxiety is about whether or not a game will run as well as they would like it to run because new hardware is always going to be released and PC game developers always push the performance envelop which requires better hardware. There was a thread where someone simply could not stop whining about the fact that his two year old budget PC barely meet the minimum requirements for Fallout 4 and he did not have the money to upgrade anything.

A high end rig from a few years ago may only be considered an above average rig today. Console hardware does not change unless it is a new generation console. Therefore, they need to work within specific limitations. That's good since a PS4 game released in 2019 will run on a PS4 purchased in 2013. It's bad because PS4 graphics will look outdated compared to PC graphics especially as the years progress.

HWMonitor is what I use. Couldn't remember the name for the life of me.
