Overheating CPU on simple tasks, new cpu cooler?

Hello,

First time poster here. I am running a desktop computer I set together in 2014.
It has a AMD FX-8350 with the stock cooler. I am not overclocking.

I noticed that in the last week, maybe longer, that when I am watching simple things such as videos on youtube that the CPU heats up to around 60c (celsius). When I do nothing, i paused the vidoes at the moment, it remains to 47c.

I was wondering what the cause could be of this sudden heat development. I don't think it is cooling paste cause otherwise it would be warm all the time, right? So is it really the bad stock cooler that causes this? (also because non of my other components are overheating)

My case is a Mid Tower Antec 300. My space inside is limited though and I know a lot of coolers are fairly large sticking out from the mobo. So if I were to think of changing the cooler what could be a good alternative that sticks around the same size as the stock cooler inside? I don't want to end up with a cooler that might not fit.

Here is a speccy made while runnign videos:

I wanted to know from people's experiences if it was normal or not, currently it is running at a stable 18-20c.
Because wouldn't the dry termal paste cause problems even when you are using little of the cpu? shouldn't the temp now be higher if that were the case?

If I had to check the termal paste I would have to rip open everything, if I did that I might as well place a new cooler 😉 so that I don't have to do it twice.

I will give a shot at gaming today see if it overheats or not, cause the last weeks it hasn't given me problems yet even while running fall out on high-ultra.

Edit:

I did some digging and also found that the turbo booster (which apparently is not so good for temps) was enabled in my bios, I turned it off and with the same video playing it is around 31c which is a lot lower than this morning.

Lastly adding that I spend a couple hours gaming and the max was around 63c, the average around 54c

When is the last time you took cleaned your tower out? Dust, hair, dirt can all collect on your heat sink fins, case fans, CPU fan(s), and case vents blocking the flow of air and causing heat related issues. Cleaning can be done with a vacuum, however using compressed air is usually best.

Not sure what you mean by "turbo booster" but you may be referring to turbo core. The FX 8350 can turbo core up to 4.2Ghz when an application needs more CPU processing power. With your machine not being able to handle turbo core and overheating while watching videos it is either compacted with dust and debris and needs to be cleaned out or you need to replace the stock cooler (which isn't that good to begin with). Best place to start with is to clean your tower, if that doesn't make a difference then an aftermarket cooler would be the next best move (I was able to overclock a FX 8370 to 4.5Ghz with a Hyper 212 EVO before switching to water cooling). If your not overclocking you really do want to be able to use Turbo Core, it does make a difference in gaming, video editing, ect.
