overkill for 1440p gaming?

Solution
Nothing is overkill for 1440p@144fps. Just depends on how good your price/performance level is.

Instead go for the Corsair ML case fans. Those are the better ones.

32GB RAM, for what? Future proofing or aesthetics? For now, don't need more than 16GB at all for gaming and productivity.

Could save ~35 dollars and get the Hitachi Ultrastar 7200rpm 2TB HDD, if 3TB isn't necessary.

I'd recommend reference design graphics cards (blower) for SLI setups. They offer improved air circulation compared to custom AIB's.

Motherboard choice etc. is all your chose.

Example: Parts with same grade performance for a cheaper price.
There's not MUCH reason to spend $200 on RAM; a 16GB kit is plenty for now.

Also, a single 1080 is probably sufficient - if you want SLI, there's certainly no reason to pick 1080s over the 1070s; they represent way worse price to performance, even with a 144Hz 1440p monitor like that.

I would start with one GTX 1080 and see how you like the performance before adding another in SLI I really see no reason to use reference cards for under 200 Watt video cards.. I would also pass on the MSI motherboard and all you need is 16GB of memory. Buy a SSD to load all your games on not much in game performance increase but helps cut screen/load times.
If you like the looks without the Air cooler then no biggie to me but I would get a Cryorig H5 cooler it's plenty for a 6700K with a decent overclock.
The only places I would buy parts from is Newegg and Amazon.

Good, you can find 2TB HDD's that are equally good for a cheaper price. Like the Hitachi I listed earlier, that one isn't worse in anyway than the Seagate Barracuda. Actually, the Hitachi Ultrastar has a lower failure rate than the Barracuda. Since it also costs about 20 quid cheaper, it makes it a hard deal to ignore. Good luck though, what you have now regardless of price is a monster. We're waiting for pictures.
