overlocking the 4670k with a Noctua NH-U12S

i want to upgrade my system from ye olde fm1 socket amd to a fairly good 4670k and ive read that haswell burns like mad so i was wondering if i were to overclock it to 4ghz rather than the typical 4.4 or 4.5ghz would the Noctua NH-U12S be suitable to keep it cool

You can hit 4.0ghz easy as switching the multiplier and thats it! The Noctua should cool it no problem. If you want to clock more later when you have more experience, you can.

I run my i5 4670k @ 4.3 with the cooler master hyper 212+ with temps maxing around ~65 in games. The Noctua should handle at least that as it appears to be the better cooler of the two.

I've managed to overclock my 4670k stable at 4.2Ghz and never reach higher temps than 62C while gaming. I have the good ol' Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo as CPU cooler.

Good cooler choices guys! Although I typically run water, my main workstation is using the CM EVO too, with Scythe gentle typhoons in push pull. I run at 4.2 most of the time, but have reached 4.7 stable.

hmmmm due to the price difference im leaning towards the cooler master hyper 212 evo, is it quiet and will it keep it relativley cool at 4.0 to 4.2 ghz?

Yes, for example, after a long BF4 session, I only maxed at 60C on the cpu. Your mileage may vary a bit, but for the money, it is a great cooler.

yeah i guess for the price difference being big enough to allow me to spend more on a mobo or save for an ssd id go with the 212, thanks guys
