Bastion can be a great hero for a new player to pick up as he is very easy to play, you really just need to know where to set yourself up and how to aim and he can decimate entire teams if you see them approaching before they see you to remove you from your entrenched position.
Configuration:Recon
This is the default mode for bastion and in this mode he is fully mobile and his main fire button will utilize his submachine gun to inflict damage at medium range. It doesn't output a lot of damage, but generally this mode is only used when you need to get around the map, not for actual combat.
Configuration:Sentry
This is going to be the mode you switch to most often once you find a good spot to set up in. When you are in this configuration you cannot move, but your main fire is a minigun that will inflict massive amounts of damage very quickly. Each round actually does less damage than your submachine gun, but you will spit out those rounds almost four times as fast. At long range this gun isn't very accurate, so try to set yourself up somewhere that will put you at a close or medium range of the enemy as soon as they enter your line of sight. Try not to leave your back exposed at the same time though, as a direct hit to the blue square on Bastion's back is the same as getting a head shot on other heroes while he is in this configuration.
Reconfigure
Using this ability is what will switch you from sentry to recon configuration, or vice versa. It takes about half a second to switch between the modes.
Self-Repair
This is a channeled ability that you can hold the button for as long as you need to heal yourself back up to full health. It can be used in either configuration, so you can get to cover to use this in recon mode, or stay sitting as a turret and heal yourself up between enemy pushes.
Configuration:Tank
When Bastion uses his ultimate he will be both mobile, and deadly at all ranges. His main attack will now be a long range rocket launcher that explodes in a large radius to deal some massive damage to anyone caught within it. Bastion can only remain in this configuration for a limited time, but with the huge radius of his main fire he can dish out a lot of punishment while he is in it.
