Putting a new motherboard in my case and have to add another standoff screw to the case. The extra standoff has been stored in a bag of screws, and is sticky and not shiny, probably oxidized, compared to the ones I’ve had in my case the whole time. They’re either brass or gold plated.

Is there a way to clean it or will it be fine?

The standoff area that mates with the motherboard is often cordoned off on the PCB side of the motherboard. You should be fine to use it.

If they're brass of gold plated, you can use a polishing compound and a polishing bit/attachment on a rotary tool.

If I don’t have polishing compound, would vinegar be effective? I tried cleaning with isopropyl alcohol but it didn’t help.

Or what about some steel wool?
