Even all the talk someone must push the market someone big really big.

IS NAME INTEL.They have push the market a long time ago and they still push and will push again but maybe hardware are to advance for software.

hi,

Extension are just cheating on ourself, our technology. And we think the CPU is powerful while it's actually not, it's just supported by a extension just like the Pentium IV

we are not cheating ourselves, we are cheating the software. MMX, or 3DNow! or SSE2 extensions are basically instructions added to the basic instruction set of the x86 family processors later on with their newer versions, inline with requirements at the time of their release.
this is a part of their evolution. they "learn" new instructions, how to do small tasks efficiently, and instructions like Single Instruction Multiple Data extensions teach the processor to take one single instruction and apply it to a range of data, instead of telling it for every quantum of data. doesnt that save time?

and SSE2 adds to the original SSE instruction set to give newer capabilities and increase the performance.

theres not just empty power, there is intelligence beneath that power.

and same applies to Athlon too, just that it doesnt know SSE2 as yet.

that is the point.

if a car does not have F16 engine, it wont run even close to the F16. its an added advantage, if you dont have it, its fine. if your applications demand that you must have it.

Hmm, these benchmarks don't seem very relevant though. Aside from the fact the most software isn't SSE2 optimized, there are other factors to think about. I use 3D Studio Max, and in that a P4 behaves like a 500MHz Athlon- or worse. Quite honestly, I think P4 is doomed, and hope that Intel will go down the crapper as well.

i think the main thing that bugs me about all these "optimisations" is that they need to be done in the first place...

wishful thinking here but wouldnt it have been better to make a better performing chip to start with?
now everyone has to dance to intels tune, using up their own time money and effort producing optimised code.
just doesnt seem right...
like building a car engine that runs best on a fuel mixture that hasnt been made yet.

and what about legacy programs? are people going to optimise the plethora of programs out there that are commonly used to make them perform better?

so glad there is a alternative out there now.
sure amd has problems. some self induced, others due to operator incompetence, 3rd party incompitence. but at least they have made the leading edge so much more affordable!
