P4 joke

Some one once posted "Whoever moves the most data wins" something like this. I disagree because it doesn't take into account of the full picture.

Actually the title should be "Whoever crunches the quickest what was moved into it wins"

The waiter (RAM transfer speed) can serve as fast as he wants, but if the chef (HDD) cannot cook fast enough (HDD has been the computer technology worst bottleneck since ???, shame of HDD manufacter) then the served (CPU) will still have to wait, even when the waiter is light speed.

Another issue with P4. It is like a husband (say:the Micro Instruction Sequencer) telling its many wifes (say:the complex integer FPU) what to do. The many wifes have to tell its even many children (say:the simple integer FPU) what to do.

Wow, very good, many peoples doing many things. In real life, the man knows how troublesome the woman can be. The best description is on the children, very fussy, can't do this, can't do that. They are like some of P4's simple FPU, can't crunch number this way or that way.

Like a children, the simple FPU must be fed in a special way that it likes so that it is willing to work.

If I describe the P4 that way, then P3 and the likes should be describe where they do not have children but young adults capable to taking a whole load more complex, like real life adult.

This joke is open for discussion into higher detail.

.... Yes, like the P4 has 2 hyperactive 6-year old integer children to do the simple math. And one wife to do the FP math. All living in a big fancy house.

.... Whereas, Athlon is a Mormon who has 3 college student children to do the integer math and 3 college professor wives to do the FP math in a tidy, modest, 7-bedroom ranch house.

The joke continues:-

When you muster enough $$$ to fulfill the needs (software optimizations) of the children with enough ice cream (MMX), candy (SSE) and chocolate (SSE2) then all you kids will do as told and who-la power.

But Athlon don't have kids, only got smart wifes and college/university kids so chocolate and icecream won't do. Like adult they are very difficult to satisfy.
