Re: Yea I agree, for home users the P4EE 3.4 is not needed. I just paid to have a video job done for a project, and it cost me $40,000. I almost couldn't get the crew I got cuz they were very busy. If having a P4EE 3.4 over anything else for there video editing can help them do 1 more job a year due to time savings, then for them it's worth it. That's the market where they don't care about a few extra hundred dollars for a chip. Hell, 5 years ago they were paying 30 grand for a PC to do the same job for the same money.

I agree..But then again that's a very specific situation you are talking about. By no means general normal or even above adverage video editing computer use. which is what I believe therod was referring to (normal usage).

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

Hasn't anyone here noticed that the authors claim to have a D0 stepping (CPUID 0F34h) but CPU-Z in fact reports it as a regular 0F33h?

<A HREF="http://www20.tomshardware.com/cpu/20040322/prescott-01.html" target="_new">http://www20.tomshardware.com/cpu/20040322/prescott-01.html</A>

They say "CPU-Z properly identifies the new Pentium 4 processor, Model 3, Stepping 3 (CPUID 0F34h)"

As <A HREF="http://www.overclockers.com/tips00549/" target="_new">Ed at Overclockers.com</A> pointed out, "3=4????"

Yes, the PCN was headline news on many sites.

But my point is that Tom's Hardware did not have a D0 stepping as they said they did.

I noticed that as well in the CPUID page. If 3=4 then I've had a 4 gig PIV for a long time now. If they are going to review a D0 stepping they should at least use the right chip. Or get the right screenshot from CPUID

There a chance that intel have change idea on the name of the stepping and the 1 in may will be P4-64.Tomshardware DO is a middle step bettween original and the ''real'' D0.

It might just be name confusion.

i need to change useur name.

name confusion... i think we will be seeing more of that in the near future with mobile p-m and p4ee's having the same 7xx series name and the other pr names.
